My goal for this project was to create a way to show how to make an omelet without using words. Creating an illustration that perfectly showcases this.
Sketches
The sketches are what would eventually be used in the recipe project. Using symbols that could easily be recognized no matter the language or cultural barrier. There were plenty of symbols that were sketched out.
Colors
The darker purple color was used for the main title of the text, as well as a few symbols. The light blue color is also used throughout the recipe project.
Typography
Casserole – Regular was used for the large main title. Using it to catch the viewer’s attention. Picking a unique font to purposely stand out.
Thrillers – Medium was used for the sub-title. Picking another unique type to catch the viewer’s attention. Making both typefaces contrast.
Digital Drafts
This is one of the earliest iterations of the recipe without words. Each symbol is very basic as well as the layout, having no real order. The title has a placeholder typeface as well. This particular digital draft served as to what would be further developed. Making sure to take of note each problem.
This iteration is slightly more refined. Addressing the previous digital draft that was unorganized. Giving each box a white color to make it stand out from the background and spacing each box out as well. Each symbol at this point needed to be refined and to be made clearer. Also needing to rearrange certain boxes to make more sense.
This iteration was one of the last ones created before the final. Giving each symbol more detail and making each box larger to give more space. Making each step clearer. It was at this point that the only real thing left to change was the title and make it stand out.
Final Recipe Design
This is the final iteration of my recipe without words. Giving each box a splash of color that adds to the overall piece. The title and subtitle typefaces were chosen for their uniqueness and contrast. Needing a stand-out title. The final iteration addresses any previous alignment issues, symbol issues, and typeface issues.
